Commonwealth Games 2010

The 2010 Commonwealth Games is the 19th Commonwealth Games, and the ninth to be held under that name. The Games were held in Delhi, India, from 3 to 14 October 2010, and are the largest multi-sport event conducted to date in Delhi and India, which hosted the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982.

This marks the first time the Commonwealth Games have been held in India and the second time the event has been held in Asia (after the 1998 Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia).

South Africa’s Medal Standing~

South Africa took home 12 Gold Medals, 10 Silver and 13 Bronze

Natalie du Toit won her third gold medal of the Games when she recorded a dominating victory in the women’s S9 100 metres butterfly on Saturday. It was the last event of her Commonwealth Games career.

The Nigerian sprinter awarded a gold medal in the women’s 100 metres final at the Commonwealth Games after Australia’s Sally Pearson was disqualified has tested positive for a banned substance.   (http://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/10/osayomi-on-hunger-strike/)

Osayomi Oludamola ran 11.32 to finish second to Pearson before the Australian was disqualified for a false start.

Well done to all the athletes that SASCO chose to go , you have done us proud! Now to prepare for The 2012 Olympics in London.
